Artist, Muscisian, Film-maker, Content Creator - If I had to describe what I want to do in one word , Strory-teller. The one word that encompasses it all. 

Growing up, I found comfort in the narratives of pro wrestling, the emotion of music, and the magic of movies. As I evolved, so did my desire to tell stories of my own — stories that could inspire others the way so many stories have inspired me.

I’ve directed short films, written original scripts, and lyrics for songs in music, and even hosted a radio show — each experience reinforcing my belief that powerful stories live at the heart of all great art. My creative voice is shaped by emotional honesty, resilience, and a love for the underdog.

“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” This belief has shaped the way I see the world. My name is Sarim Khan Khattak, a proud graduate in Media Studies, Passionate for storytelling not just as a form of expression, but as a calling. Now ready to take that passion to the next level — academically, artistically, and professionally.

 Growing up, I have always found myself instinctively drawn to the art of telling stories. I realized early on that stories had the power to comfort, challenge, and change people. Stories can make you think, be inspired or just even feel understood.

I have always been inspired by the art of storytelling, ever since I was a child, growing up I was a big fan of pro wrestling which at its core is pure storytelling: good vs bad, emotion and overcoming odds, underdog vs the up-hill battle. All I wanted was to be a part of those stories and inspire others the way those stories inspired me. Growing a little older I fell in love with music and the art of telling both stories and conveying emotions with the words in the songs and the feel of the music, the way a song could be so much to me, a friend I found comfort in, a therapist validating my emotions or just a motivator helping me find the belief in myself again. How you could make someone feel so many emotions with just one song, I fell in love with that artform and wanted to do the same.

After that the ability to do the same with content creation, the creative freedom that came with it was another thing I was very fascinated and motivated by and tried my hand in as well creating my own original content across social media, tapping into that creative side of me and now I feel the same way about Filmmaking. 

Films just like music can be that friend, showing you that you are not alone in going through the things you are going through, Films can also be therapeutic or inspiring, all through the stories they tell. I personally love ‘comeback’ or ‘underdog’ stories, I find those very inspirational. But I also love other genres as well such as comedy, romance and drama. I hope one day to make the masses feel the same way many films have made me feel so far.

 One thing in common in all of these artforms is that medium is different, but the core is the same which is telling good stories, conveying and evoking emotions and sharing your truths and realities with people hoping to connect with them, inspire them and have that relatability with an audience. That is what I want from my art. 

During my undergraduate studies, I immersed myself in the art and theory of media, but the moments that impacted me most were those spent bringing my ideas to life. Whether it was directing short films, writing scripts, or working on my music that captured emotional nuances — every project reaffirmed my commitment to storytelling as a transformative tool.

One of the defining experiences of my journey was an internship as a radio jockey. The intimacy of voice, the challenge of keeping a listener engaged, and the thrill of spontaneous storytelling and connecting with people through those stories and of course through music, it deepened my respect for narrative craft. It taught me that storytelling is not just about what is said, but how, when, and why it is said. My radio experience strengthened my ability to understand audience perception, tone, and emotional rhythm — all of which are crucial to cinematic storytelling.

Equally important is the chance to learn from mentors whose work I admire and who have shaped the storytelling traditions I grew up inspired by. I look forward to engaging with diverse narratives — from local to international cinema — as well as to developing stories that are rooted in South Asian identity while resonating with global audiences.

In the short term, I aim to enhance my storytelling techniques, understand the evolving media landscape, and build a creative network that supports bold, empathetic storytelling. My vision is to establish a platform for emerging filmmakers and writers — a space where stories can thrive, especially those that are underrepresented or misrepresented.

To me, studying film and media is not just about creating entertainment — it’s about contributing to a global conversation through powerful, human stories. I bring with me a deep curiosity, a cultural perspective, and a passionate commitment to the craft. I am eager to be challenged, mentored, and inspired.
