ANOTHER DAY

ABOUT THE FILM:
Every day we turn on the news, it seems we hear about some new tragedy happening somewhere in the world. Wars, attacks, protests, crime, all of these things that often lead to people somewhere getting hurt or losing their lives. The most unfortunate part of that, that comes with it which I have noticed in the world today is with how common news and stories like that are now, it has somehow led to much of us as the collective human society becoming desensitised to the gravity of death. When we turn on the news and hear a story about 50 people dying due to some reason somewhere. It is almost as if we don’t even realise anymore what that means. Death has just been reduced to a number or a statistic whereas if we truly think about the depth and weight of death as a concept, then five people dying which seems insignificant today compared to five hundred, looking through a different perspective that number five is still five people’s entire lives. Each one is years of relationships built, habits formed, plans half finished, people who loved them and will now carry that absence for the rest of their own lives. None of that disappears just because the number attached to it was small enough to skim past on a phone screen.

This short film began with a simple discomfort about that reality we live in today. Another Day is my attempt to resist it, even in a small way, by refusing to let a death be just a number or a statistic.

The Film follows ‘Adam’ who is an aspiring actor. We follow him along for a couple of days in what seems like an ordinary week in his life. In that journey we are introduced to the world around him. We meet his family that includes his mother Ms. Sarah Hayes. She is like a typical Protective parent who worries and cares about her son. She wants him to follow his dreams of becoming an actor but also worries for him to have a good life. She is doing her best as a parent trying to balance that supportive yet being realistic with the tough love. The other part of that family is his sister Ellie. Ellie is that relaxed nonchalant younger sibling that is always there to make fun of you and tease you yet behind all that cares deeply about you. We also meet Adams Best friend ‘Sam’. We see how close they both are in that one interaction they have. It doesn’t take long to realise and see that they have known each other all their lives with the way they joke around with each other, they are their absolute authentic selves and know what the other one means and is thinking without them having to say it. Finally, we meet Adam’s Girlfriend Leah. Leah and Adam are very clearly soulmates. They are very much in love with each other and cannot spend even more than a few days away from each other. As we go along on this journey with Adam in his life what seemed like would be just an ordinary week turns out to be something entirely different.

What happens that makes that day not so ordinary is much better experienced watching the film then reading about it however, the idea behind it explores why it happens that way.
